In this project we have been talking about the idea of FAIRNESS within communities: locally, nationally and internationally.

The project is being carried out in partnership with the Hunt Museum  and the Limerick Restorative Practices Project, with the support of the Southill Family Resource Centre.

The project looks at the theme of fairness. The aim of the project is to challenge stereotypical perceptions of Limerick communities, both negative and positive, and give the participants the chance to share ideas for solving problems. The project endeavours to create a sense of shared community and collaboration within the groups, giving them a platform to express themselves and their concerns. These are key elements for change and reconciliation in a community.

Restorative Practices is an approach that enables people and communities to build positive relationships and improve communication, to prevent and resolve conflict and difficulties as they arise. The ‘Communities of Culture’ project hopes to give participants the opportunity to contribute some of the realities of their communities through discussion, problem-solving, ideas-generation and creative process.

Through facilitated workshops the groups, eight in total, have been discussing the idea of fairness and producing suggestions as to what would make their communities fairer places to live for all. The groups involved have come up with many ideas, questions and points for debate on the subject of what would make their communities more fair; from these initial starting points they worked together to identify priorities.

These priorities will be the foundation for three weeks of public discussion and interaction that will take place at the museum. The education wing will be transformed into an exhibition and ‘action’ space where talks, workshops and events will take place to share ideas, build skills and inspire change. All of these activities will be based on the ideas generated by the groups involved in the project.
